I’ve got a mid-1940s vintage 94 and was thinking about putting a vintage tang sight on it. But looking at the sights, I see 2 holes and only one on the tang. Is the other hole for a set screw or do I actually have to d&t the tang for the second hole?? (not gonna)

Thanks!

John,

If there is a filler plug in the tang behind the hammer, that is were the front tang sight screw goes and the rear screw uses the big screw that goes through the stock at the end of the tang. You replace the rear stock screw with one that is slightly longer and has a small head. If you don’t have the front screw hole then you would have to D&T which you said you wouldn’t do.

Thanks Bob. No there’s nothing but solid tang all the way to that rear screw so I guess I would be out of luck without the D&T.

How much would that affect the overall value if I did do the D&T for the tang sight?

John,

Here is what I would do without drilling. Get the correct screw for the back hole and then use a little blue locktite under front side to hold it steady or something similar. I would think a blue locktite which is a medium strength would be removable without harming the blue finish if there is any.
