Hi there, George from New Zealand! I,m thinking of buying an 86 rifle in average to good condition. 45/70, 26 inch oct. barrel,av. cond. full length mag tube. Its first year of production, ser no  2576. straight stock and standard sights. Cresent  butt.  I,m wondering what the value would be, approximately?  I,ve recently bought an 86 carbine, 45/90. 22 inch round barrel with full length mag.One barrel band, made in 1910. Shotgun butt very tidy condition, good bore. straight stock. standard sights also. Also would like to know value of 85 High wall, 50 Eley. no 3 barrel, good  bore. Also has 500 EXP on barrel. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Hello George,

We will need to see a clear set of pictures for each of your Winchester rifles. Additionally, what is the serial number on your high-wall ?

George,

Model 1885 serial number 72705 is listed as a 50 ELEY, received in the warehouse in June 1896. I suspect that it has British proof marks on the barrel and receiver. Can you send me clear pictures of the barrel markings ?

Hi again Bert, I forgot to mention that Highwall has the word “CALCUTTA” stamped on barrel. I,m not able to send pics but could do so off my phone if I have your email address. George

George,

It is most likely marked “LYON & LYON CALCUTTA” or “W. LOCKE & CO. CALCUTTA”

Send the pictures to me at [email protected]
