I hate having to do this, but I need to warn everyone that Winchester 64 carbine 30 WCF #1124835 that was just listed today on GI is NOT an original gun.
Here is a link to the auction a few weeks ago noting the issues: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/1084494915
Description from the gunbroker auction:
“This gun has probably fooled many people over the years, but it is a refinished, reworked gun. It has a modified barrel. I can see evidence of welding/filling to restamp the caliber marking. Other than that, the barrel looks to be from an original 20″ “Carbine” with a correct short front ramp that does not appear to be fabricated. The stocks do have original finish and are original checkered “deluxe” Winchester stocks. The receiver and many of the parts are refinished. Very nicely and hard to discern from original. I do see a couple of small parts that are original finish; the butt plate, lever and a few internal parts.”
Here is the new listing:
BRP,
A few years ago I posted on some suspicious bidding, IMO, on this sellers auctions, and I caught a little flak for it, by a few members, who don’t post a lot here anymore. Hence a lot of it was justified down the road, and proven doctored and even faked in some cases. Many listings can be verified, as we seem to spend a lot of time doing that, in today’s world, and that’s okay, as our due diligence can go a long ways. There’s still a lot of good honest collectors, and many can be found on this site. IMO!
Happy Collecting,
Anthony

JDR284 was already on the growing list of sellers on my “Do Not Buy” list, for previously faked NIB Winchester 61 and Model 70 faked rare rifles.Leopards really never do change their spots. Thank you, Austin for bringing this to the attention of WACA members.
BRP
JDR284 was the winning bidder in Austin’s listing so this seller knows exactly what he is fraudulently doing. Couldn’t Gunbroker be notified of this fraud, or do they even care to do anything about it?

I’m sure the seller simply say that Austin was wrong and the gun is 100% original
