So I finally got a hold of some 45-90 brass, and am looking to load for my 1886. I have a lyman 300 gr bullet mould that was what was used in the original bp factory loadings, as well as an original Winchester loading tool, which I’ll be using. Now I understand it’s made for bp, but I want to load with 5477, and what I am looking for is anyones load data using a 300gr cast bullet and 5477 powder. Specifically im looking for reduced loads, sub bp velocity. I’m thinking in the 1300-1400 fps range. Anything advice will help, thank you!

I have 3 loads for the 45-90 producing around 1,500 but none with 5744.  I do use 28 grains of 5744 and a 405 grain bullet in a 45-70 that gets me around 1,300 fps.  With the lighter bullet you could use more powder.  Mike Venturino’s book says to use 30 grains of 5744 for about 1,400 fps.
