An old rancher I work with had asked me if I might be interested in an old beat up 1873 that belonged to his grandfather. I said definitely. I am extremely fond of him and it would be an honor to own a rifle from his family.
Anyway he dropped by today and said he hasn’t found the olf beat up 73 but he did find an old beat up 92 that was in their family forever.
Pics below. Wood is rough but action seems good, bore is pretty clean for a 118 year old gun. The forearm and stock are heavily sanded and reshaped a bit. Serial number dates to 1901. Metal isn’t too bad except for the model of 1892 engraving on the tang.
My 18 month old approves. Pretty great for a gift gun. Maybe someday I’ll stumble into an 1886…
Its definitely been there done that. Interesting repair to the lever.
