Hi all, been a while since I was on this forum. I just purchased a 1952 Model 71 rifle, and am wondering if it can be lettered or if I can find out any information about it? Not sure if anything is available this late but worth a try. Thanks, 021

I do not believe that there are any factory records available but there are Serial Number Application dates available from s/n 1 – 23010 if this helps.

Thanks Paul, I’m afraid my serial number is quite a bit above that.

What is the serial number? I have an ongoing research survey documenting the Model 71, and I have verified trhe barrel dates on a few dozen of them that are post-WW II production.

Bert, it’s 33998. Does that equate to 1952? It is a deluxe with side mounted Lyman peep, and has the sling swivels, which I believe were standard on the deluxe? Thanks, 021

It is either late 1951 or early 1952.  I suspect that it will have a “51” marked barrel though.  Yes, the sling swivels were standard on the Model 71 Special.  I found and surveyed this rifle when it was listed by the Cabela’s Gunn Library in Acworth, GA.
