I picked up an 1895 standard carbine in 30-40, how much of a deduction, would you place on it with a previous owners name engraved on the bolt? The gun is in nice condition exept for the name.

Due to the relatively nice quality of the engraving (or stamping) of the name on the bolt, I personally would not devalue that Carbine anything more than $1.  It is quite evidently a part of that gun’s history and has been on the gun nearly its entire lifetime.

I wouldn’t devalue it any, either.  It’s tastefully done, not just scratched in.

Thans for response, I grabbed as it is above average of the carbines I have been running into, most have been in Buba’s gun repair shop, missing hand guards, pads & swivels added, etc.

I agree – I would not devalue it either.  It is very nicely done and as has already been said, is part of the gun’s history.  Overall, a decent and appealing carbine.

I agree with not devaluing.  Perhaps do a little hound work and maybe find out who Carlos is.  Might even increase value!

Yes Mark, it would be cool to find out who Carlos was!
