Hey all I just purchased a 1894 Winchester 30 WCF not sure but think it was made around 1950 it has a Lyman sight on it and I was wondering if it was original or is something that was added on? And maybe get a value on it I payed around $600 for it and I love it more in person than the pictures online it has a really nice patina and the wood seems really nice other than a crack in the stock but I think I am going to get my gunsmith to fix that. Haven’t shot it yet but it seems like a very solid gun. Serial number is 1644749

OfflineWhile it might be a factory installed Lyman No. 56, the odds are higher that it was aftermarket installed. The condition of the bluing underneath the base, and the precision of the drilled & tapped holes in the receiver frame to mount it need to be seen and inspected to determine if it was factory installed or aftermarket work.

OfflineLooks like a steel Lyman 66 rather than a 56 . The sight alone on ebay would bring over $100 . I’d have given $500 for that from what I can see ( not much ) from your pictures. The Lyman 56’s are bringing crazy money at auction now days as are the Redfield sight that looks like a 56 . I love them but had to quit buying them when they started bringing over $175 . Last 56’s I saw on ebay were near $200 for incomplete ones for parts and in the $300 range for usable sights. Congratulations , I think you got a good deal in todays market.
Better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

I believe you are correct in that it is a Lyman No. 66 versus a No. 56. Lyman introduced the No. 66 in the year 1953. A factory installed Lyman receiver sight on a 1950 production Model 94 would have been a No. 56.
