Hi Winchester Collector experts!
Long-time reader, first-time poster here.
I have the opportunity to pick up a 1922 vintage SRC in 32 WS w/a 20 inch round barrel for what seems like a good price. It’s an “over the internet” deal, so I won’t be able to examine the gun in person. For now, I just have the following photos to go on:

My questions to you are:
- Does the condition look plausible for a 96 year old gun? I’m used to guns of this age having little bluing left on the receiver, but maybe I haven’t been around enough well-cared-for guns 🙂
- What’s the value range for a gun of this vintage and condition assuming the bluing and wood finish are original?
- What’s the value if it turns out the bluing and/or wood finish are not original?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Kelton
Yeah, the stock looked suspiciously shiny to me. I wasn’t sure if it was just bad photography, or excessive oiling to make it look good for the photo, or actual varnish. I can ask the seller, but I don’t want to bug him anymore unless I’m serious… which will depend on getting some more feedback on the plausibility of the condition and a range of values. 🙂
The bluing appears to be factory original. The wood may or may not have extra finish added (my guess is that it has), but it does not appears to have been sanded, and that is a big positive.
How much is the seller asking for it?

I’d ask for better pics of wood to metal fit and lettering but I’d probably be an enthusiastic buyer at $1000 if it is the gun it appears to be.
