Tony:
Do not have that s/n in any data that I have. Maybe pdog72 will chime in later. As far as the forearm goes, 7 3/8″ are on guns with shorter than 20″ barrels. an 8 3/8″ forearm is used on guns with 20 and 22″ barrels. a 9 3/8″ forearm can be found on guns with 22″ barrels.

I don’t have that one in my files either. I’m running low on searches so cant help run the number for you. I agree with Paul. If it has one of the shorter fore end lengths, and the rear sight is only 4 ” front the receiver (rather than 5″) its probably a correct short rifle.

Okay I just got back with the rifle. I cant remember how to post pictures. I’ll try to describe. Barrel is 21in long,Forearm wood is 6 3/4 metal to metal,Front sight from end of barrel to middle of dove tail is about 3/4 of an inch,Rear sight is about 5in from receiver I’ll try to get pictures up
Tony:
From what you just posted, it really sounds like a cut down rifle. There are only 4 known 21″ rifles. That doesn’t mean there aren’t some out there above the s/n range of 353,999. Did you get this rifle from an auction site? Maybe they still have the photos posted so we could take a look. I can’t post photos on site either but, if you want to send them by e-mail, I could take a look.

Ive had trouble uploading photos too but it has been because the file size was too large. Right click on the photo and open with MS Paint or other photo software then reduce the size. If small enough you should be able to drag from your desktop to the upload attachments box, start the upload and it will post. Or, shoot it to one of us in an email and we will post it.

Sorry to say, your rifle is totally modified.
Forend is cutdown – only rifles with 16″ or less barrels have the shortest 7-1/8″ forearm.
The barrel is cutdown – the front and rear sight measurement is wrong and the magtube hangar is also misplaced.
The mag tube endcap is flat which is incorrect
I’m sure you’ll find the muzzle diameter to be too large.
a decent hunter perhaps – a collector, no.

Bob
Tony,
As has been said above, the barrel has been shortened from the muzzle end. The 5″ distance from the receiver to the center of the rear sight dovetail is correct for a standard rifle (4″ for most if not all of the short rifles Ive seen (20″ bbl)). The front sight should measure 15/16″ to 1″ to center from the muzzle. The forearm was shortened and from what it looks like the magazine retaining band now occupies the original location for the forearm cap tenon (should measure 9 13/16″ from the receiver to the center of the tenon screw on standard length rifles. The end cap for the magazine tube, as mentioned above, is not the right one for a shorter magazine. Would venture to guess that the forearm tenon dovetail shows bright metal where it was milled (barrels blued after dovetails are cut).
