I just recently had an 1894 in 25-35 passed down to me. The person that gave me the rifle wasn’t really sure how it got into the family only that it was old, and thought I’d appreciate it. Which I truly do. I have applied for a factory letter from the Cody Museum and using the “When was your Winchester made” page on this site it appears to be from 1907. Is there any other way to find out information on the rifle? I know I won’t be able to trace the prior owners but maybe what the original configuration was? As it sits now someone has placed a Marbles sight behind the hammer and removed the original rear sight.
Thanks for any help on this.
If your Model 1894 has a serial number < 354000, the Cody letter will provide you with the “as manufactured” details. If the serial number is > 353999, the only information available is the date of manufacture.
If you can post (or provide) pictures of the rifle, we can evaluate it for you.

Thanks for the reply. I’m guessing since I’m just a guest member I can’t post the photos. The serial number is 367655. So looks like I’ll just be getting the date of manufacture. Which is better than nothing.
September 1907.
You can send the pictures to me. With them, I can identify precisely what you have.
