I know we all say it, why did I sell that gun, never found another like it.
In 1988 when just starting to get serious with Winchester collecting, I purchased a pistol grip 92. $800
Turns out it may have been a deluxe, which I did not know at the time, and sold it for a small profit.
specks
sn 858131
cal 38 WCF
24″ half oct half rd
capped pistol grip not checkered
wood was beautiful, collectors described it as tiger stripe, but i never took the stock off to see was marked on tang or other place.
takedown,
half mag
lyman front sight and lyman receiver jack sight. blank filler in rear slot.
yep it had all the bells and whistles, what i had i will never know.
I believe it went back to the states .
if any of you guys run across it Id love to know about it.

That’s a nice 1892 deluxe. Not sure it’s worth the asking price though, in my opinion. I’d like to see the letter.
That GI listed 1892 deluxe is most certainly a wonderful rifle. It may be “worth” $28,000 to someone but that is a premium price for sure. I did not pay that much for a deluxe engraved 1892 10 years ago when the market was quite a bit stronger than today. I am not a believer in the idea that because it is an “antique” it is worth more than one that is not. The fact that you don’t have to pay a $100 FFL fee is no good reason to pay a BIG premium for the gun.

Mark my words. You younger collectors may never see this type of gun for sale for years. Price is a matter of opinion. Since I have not held this gun in my hands or pulled the stock (yes I would require that I could pull the stock and could verify the records through Cody) I really can’t say anything about the correctness or originality of the gun. It sure looks good in the pictures. 92’s like this will bring a premium to the person that really wants one and has been looking for years.
Here is the Socialist Republik of California it only costs $25 to register a modern gun. Any more than that is what the FFL dealer is charging for his time. Resale is the greater issue for modern guns. Once it is registered in your name it becomes a hassle to sell it. You just can’t sell to whom ever you wish without 2 FFL dealers getting involved in the transfer and shipping and yes paying more fees. Collecting antiques avoids all of these issues.
