Good morning,
The rifle is all original based on the photos. The butt stock has been sanded and refinished at some time. All stamp styles and locations are correct for the SN range. The gun was manufactured during 1897. Based on the relatively low condition and alteration of the wood it is certainly down the list of desired collectability but the take down frame configuration does help it some. And there are those who attach higher value due it its “antique” status. But I do not. IF the bore is in nice condition it might get close to $1000 but you would really want to have it. While some may think ill will of the 32 WCF caliber I know others that love it and there are wonderful rifles out there in this caliber.
All this said there is a large number of guys and probably a couple ladies out there who love these rifles, want to own some of them and should never be considered second class collectors just because they don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to spend on old guns. It is the crazy high prices some are willing to spend which drives the guys to create fake rifles and take advantage of us.

Yep, $3200 is way out there. If your looking to own one Id ether consider look for something more reasonable in a little better condition or settle paying $900, maybe a little more, for this one provided it has a super clean bore. Look at it this way too, if you parted it out, what would the sum of the parts be worth. If I had this rifle on my table the sticker would likely be $1200 but I would settle for somewhere around a $1000. The sum of its parts would fall in that range but that would also mean extra work to part it out and manage multiple sales.
I like the 32-20 as a cartridge, they are fun to shoot and quite effective on game.

I like the rifle and the cartridge but seller lost me with the price. IF, and that’s probably a big IF, the bore is good you may be looking at a good shooter but you’d probably hurt the seller’s feelings if you offered him a “shooter” price for his pride & joy.
