Did Winchester ever make 86′ barrels with a ramped front sight like the 71′ Winchesters have? I’ve seen pictures of two now and was wondering if they could have been rebarrel jobs done with 71′ barrels and stamped with 86′ markings. Thanks!

The extra light rifles had the ramp type front sight and I believe that the 33 WCF’s had them also. I am sure one of the more experienced 86 collectors will chime in and give you more information.

Here are a couple pictures of the front sight on my 1886 extra lightweight in 45-70. Its a Winchester express sight on a ramp……that letters as such.
