Howdy, I’m looking at a late model 86 TDin 33WCF serial 159497. I’ve read that they put a number of these together in the 1930s and I’m wondering if one of you gentleman could share your insight of a manufacture date. Thanks in advance!
The Model 1886 you are looking at was assembled sometime after March 1932. It has a “PROOF STEEL” marked barrel, and Winchester did not replace the older “NICKEL STEEL” barrels with the new “PROOF STEEL” barrels until the Spring of 1932.

Bert,It does indeed have the “Winchester proof steel” barrel. Model 1886 stamped by the rear site. The butt plate does not have the birds beak at the top but is flat. It has a Lyman hunting front sight and a flat top rear.
I was fully aware of that fact, as I entered it as such in the Model 1886 survey early this morning when I looked at on GB. The sling studs are not factory original, and it appears the stocks have an extra coat or two of finish on them.

Throw your book away if it truly states that Model 1886 serial number 159487 was manufactured in the year 1915.

I don’t know what I saw. LOL. Wrong page? Model? Trying to do too many things at once.
Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.
