A friend asked this question about a high wall of his:
“I have one serial #6436 in 40-70 straight sharps.
Here’s the question. Stamped on the top flat from left to right-
C-L 40-70 Sharps STR.
any idea what the C-L means?Thanks

The caliber marking is actually “CAL.” – see the attached pictures.

The Cody Letter on my 25-35 take down high wall was exactly what you said it was.
Now I just need to find a gunsmith who is familiar with installing take down barrels. I have a Zika adapter and could fit a 32-40 octagon barrel to match the factory original configuration.
