I have mod. ’66 musket ser#23346. This gun has all the features of a 3rd mod. (location and style of ser#) etc. and according to the red book muskets were not offered until after #25000. The gun has clearly not been messed with, what am I missing here.

Harry,
The earliest one in old research I have is 19657 and the next one is 25038 then from 31147 on there are a lot of them. I would say your gun is correct since there is no incentive to fake a musket.

I’m glad to hear there are other muskets out there with ser#’s below the 25000 range. It’s always nice to have a piece with a twist to the norm, makes it a little rarer I think.
