Yes, its in my survey………. as a matter of fact, I used to own that rifle and sold it a couple years ago in Denver. Interesting how they show back up.

Gary,

Now that’s a pretty good indicator that there aren’t that many 1894 shorties floating around.  I have one just like it, but with an octagon barrel and 34C 3-leaf express sight.

I also have a 20″ octagon version from the same era. I’m thinking I should have kept the round barrel too as its hard to find decent 20″ rifles. The 22″ are far more common.

I think you’re right about the 20″ versions being more scarce.  Someone looking to buy a 20″ barreled rifle back then could simply opt for a standard 20″ carbine right off the shelf rather than having to special order.  It seems the 20″ short rifles are harder to come by in decent condition too.  Perhaps they saw more “carbine-type” use in saddle scabbards, etc.
