Hello,
I’m new to the forum so I apologize for not posting this correctly.
I recently picked up Winchester model 12 which I believe to be a trench shotgun and could use some assistance figuring it out.
it has his serial number in the 1035XXX range and a 43 stamped on the barrel. According to what I looked at so far, it should be parkerized but it is blued. Unfortunately someone has added a choke/compensator to the barrel, but it appears to have a 20.5 inch barrel. Below are some photos.
I would appreciate any assistance in helping me figure out exactly what I have.
thanks.
I paid $50 for it. I assume the polishing and rebluing his already lowered the value of it a bit. I can’t stand the compensator on the barrel. If I cut the compensator off it would leave the barrel at 19 7/8 inches. I’d like to hear another opinion…do you think it is better to leave it on or take it off?

Welcome, Patrick. Gun has little collector value but as a Riot Gun clone it may have some value to people who like that sort of thing. I like Chuck’s idea, cut it off @ 18” or a tad longer. Clean it up and reattach a bead. I keep a few modern 1200/1300 riot guns around for social equipment but a Model 12 would be welcome. Assuming it’s in good mechanical condition it’s one of the best fighting shotguns ever built and a round or two on the skeet fields now and then would be fun.
