There is a bi monthly sub gauge shoot at a local gun club. I recently picked up my dads old bird gun. A 16 guage model 12 made in 1941. It evidently had been sent to Simmons at some point as it has a rib and polychoke. I just started shooting sporting clays around 6 months ago and really enjoy it. I bought a new Ceasar Gureni sporting to use.
Since I was using a 16 gauge and a pump 4 targets were added to my score. I hit 80 for a net 84, 92 was the winner. My previous high was 83 with the gureni.
I’ve ordered a new stock and forearm as I like a lop of around 14.75. I imagine I’ll be shooting the old pump quite a bit in the future.

Nice! Our club does an occasional sub-gauge shoot but I don’t think the 16 gives you much of a handicap. With a slick old Model 12 the pump action isn’t much of one either if you handle it regularly. Well played! Our five stand guys once did a three-target shoot to force shooters to leave their over & unders in the case for one shoot, your old Model 12 can play that game too!
I shoot an occasional round of trap with one of a couple of Model 12’s but there was a time when the Model 12 OWNED that sport so it’s right at home on a trap field, even today. I don’t shoot either Model 12 especially well but when I do that full choke really does a nice job of smoking those clays.
