I have a 97 in 12 gauge full choke, and someone has parkerized the gun. Gun had a fair amount of pitting all over, and I guess the parkerization was supposed to make the gun look better, so I can only imagine what it looked like before. The bore does show some areas(patches) of pitting, but the barrel steel is fairly thick. I know that nobody can really answer my question regarding the severity of pitting, but I would like to shoot 2-3/4″#1 buckshot in it. I have shot low-brass #8s in it with no problem. Should I try it? I would like to deer hunt with it, if possible. Thanks….Rick

Richard,
I would look into having the bore lightly honed/polished. Shooting Buckshot in it should not pose any problems.

Thanks, Bert! I really do appreciate your advice and knowledge, and I hope others appreciate it as much as I do! I have a model 87 in 12 gauge also. I hope to post some pics of that one soon. Take care……Rick
