This past Monday I dropped this old doe with my 124 year old standard grade ’86 in 40-65. She might have been 40 yards down hill, slightly facing me. The 270 grain Hawk FN shattered the near shoulder and double lunged her before exiting. She left a 30 yard blood trail a blind man could have followed. I’ve killed a bunch of deer with this little rifle. I’ve always wondered if the guys that built it long ago ever imagined it would still be in the woods doing what it was made to do 124 years later. Not many guns can boast of being hunted with in three different centuries.

Sounds like a very nice hunt.  I had a good year also.

Antelope buck with an 1894 carbine. 1903.

Antelope doe with an 1892. 1927.

Doe whitetail with the 1894 carbine.

Second whitetail doe with an 1886. 1903.

I am especially impressed with the professional quality of your photograph. My photos make great memories but are just a Winchester laying on a deer. Next year I will try to take better pictures.

Won’t be as good as yours but you have set the bar.

I love seeing original old Winchesters still bringing home the meat and the photo is worth a thousand words.

Nice, way to go! it sure is fun to hunt with these old rifles. I shot a doe last week with my high wall in 40-70 Ballard shooting a 370 gr PP bullet. if only these old guns could talk!
