The 40/60wcf. The 40/60wcf in the 1876 Winchester has been one of my favorites for target shooting and hunting medium size game. I have tried many different loads in the old .40/60 and have found it to be very accurate and works Great on deer and wild hogs, varmints ect. Does anyone here load and or shoot the old 40/60wcf. If so I would like to hear about your shooting or hunting with the old .40/60wcf.,,,,DT
Here is a pic. of my 1876 Winchester 40/60wcf. It started life in 1884 ,has spent most of its life in and around S/W Arizona ,up until I purchased it . The rifle started as a 28″ oct. barrel. At some point it was cut-down to just under 22′. The bore in this one is near perfect. It is a very handy rifle cut down and it is very accurate shooter. A Lyman tang sight along with a Winchester semi-buckhorn barrel sight with an old Ivory bead Lyman hunter sight up front. ,,,Pardon the bad pics. I just came to own a 40-60WCF this year looking forward to shooting it. The gun came from the western province of Alberta, Canada. Also made in in 1884 and 28" octagon barrel, correct ladder sight, German silver front sight,straight grip and crescent butt plate. A good representative of a 1876.
I have a.406, 210 grain flat nose mould ordered along with a lube sizer die and top punch, so I should be all set to make bullets . Also have a set of Redding dies and Starline brass ordered. May take a while to get this stuff in great white north but I can be patient. I realize that you can make the brass from other big bore brass but I really like the correct head stamps. I think I am going to shoot Accurate 5744 smokeless in the old girl when I do get reloading for it. I well try to post some pictures of the old girl when I get shooting it.

Howdy Bruce and congratulations on the 1876 40/60.Look forward to seeing a pic of your 76. What mould do you have on order? I have used the original .406 210gr. bullet and also bullets sized at .407. The 210 gr. bullet is very accurate at 200yd. over a case full of Swiss 2ffg. I have not used any smokles powder in my 1876 rifles only Swiss and Goex bp.But if I do try a powder other than bp. it would be Accurate 5744. I look forward to hear your load results,with this powder. Yrs. back I purchased a good ammount of 40/60 wcf Jamison brass. And have never lost a case. I do not full lenth resize the brass after fireforming . The loading for all of my 1876 Winchesters is done using the Winchester tong tool’s . Had the 1876 Winchester 40-60wcf,out for a few shots .This was the three shot group @ 50 yd. Load was Jammison Brass /#200 CCI primer/55gr.2ff Swiss Black Powder/Bullet 252gr. @.406" soft lead ,cast from Winchester 40-82 mould/Lube 4http://s1289.photobucket.com/user/TheDustyTexian/media/IMG_0705threeshot40-60wcf50yd_zps0cc03426.jpg.html
