What is the difference between the 62 and the 62 A

Hello Larry,

The primary difference is the internal parts in the receiver group. The Model 62 uses the old style flat-spring to power the hammer whereas the Model 62A uses a coil-spring. The Model 62A was simply an improved Model 62.

Thanks for the info. When was the change made serial number and date wise? When was the flat bottom fore end started?

Trying to figure out manufacture date for

my 62. The only numbers I see are 363 on barrel and 363 on the stock. Thanks for any help.

Steve,

The locations you mention are not where Winchester stamped the serial number on any Model 62 rifle. Turn the rifle belly up and inspect the forwardmost part of the receiver frame and the rear section of the lower tang.
