I recently acquired a model 75 , made in 1948, it has a Weaver side mount for scope. Was this a factory option??  Also, are factory original magazines marked, Winchester or just a W?

“W” marked mags are made by Wisner’s, but they usually work as well as originals.  The side-mount is not factory.  (Jeez, why would anyone put a side-mount on a 75???)

“STITH” made scope mounts for the 75 and 52 Sporter that used the barrel dovetail and the tapped receiver sight holes.  No modifications (extra holes) were required for scope mounting.   I don’t know why they aren’t more well known   RDB

They haven’t been made since Stith died, but before that they were widely advertised; you’d have trouble finding a ’40s or ’50s gun mag without ads for them.  And a lot of them must have been sold for popular models like 70s, considering the number that still show up on ebay.  But by the ’60s, most new guns were provided with scope mounting holes, so demand for them dried up.
