Winchester model 63 serial numbers

Is it normal on a model 63 to have the serial number and then a letter behind it on the receiver, and the exact same number on the trigger guard less the letter behind it?

Yes. The letter A just indicates a slight change in manufacturing,  might have been the removal of the hold down tab on the takedown screw,  or the change in firing pin….can’t  recall right now.
