I took my Model 63, serial # 163099A, to the range today to sight in a newly applied Weaver C4 scope and try different ammo selections.
– CCI MiniMAG 22LR Copper Plated Round Nose, 40 grain, 1235 FPS
– CCI CLEAN-22 LR High Velocity Poly-Coated Lead Red Round Nose, 40 grain, 1235 FPS
– Winchester SUPER X 22LR SUPER SPEED round nose copper plated, 40 grain, 1300 FPS
Got the scope zeroed but had trouble with the CCI MiniMAG CPRN 40 grain. I tried 35 rounds and 8 did not feed properly. They were lifted up into the chamber but seemed to jam as they started to enter only going about half way in. There is a very slight yet discernable blemish on these 8 where it appears they were pinched near the head of the brass just where the bullet is seated. I pulled them and did not try to re-fire.
I had no problem whatsoever with either of the other two with feeding or ejection and had respectable groupings with both. Maybe there’s something about the bullet dimensions and seating that make the MiniMAG unappetizing to the 63’s chamber.
I’d appreciate any thoughts on the CCI MiniMAG and use in 63’s. I’ll use them up with my model 62A and 61.
