Hey guys,

I inherited my grandfather’s Winchester model 1890 in 22 LR some years back. The rifle just sits in my gun safe so I decided to post it here to get a current valuation. I’d appreciate it if you guys would take a look.

The rifle is fully functional and exhibits all matching numbers in the 74**** code range. I believe that dates it to around 1927. The rifle appears to be all original with an even and honest patina throughout. The wooden stock and fore grip/pump have darkened over the years but are solid and appear to be all original and are without repairs.

I’ll attach photos for you guys to review. Please let me know if I forgot to mention anything.

Can’t comment on value, but the P in an Oval stamp on the barrel indicates it’s a Mail Order barrel that was not installed at the factory

The barrel is from a Model 90.  The 18 was dropped somewhere around 1919.  Bert will know for sure.

The partial serial number indicates a production date sometime in the year 1927, and as such, it correctly is a Model 90.  That stated, Ted is correct in that the barrel currently on the rifle is a Mail Order replacement (not original to the rifle).  The value of the rifle will depend on how well it functions and shoots, as it is a “shooter” grade gun versus a “collector” grade Winchester.

Thank you for all the information everyone!

Bert, the rifle functions and fires properly. The action is smooth and cycles well. What do you think it’s value is giving the current info?

I suspect that it would not be too difficult to get approximately $500 for it.
