Hi everyone!

This is my first post here.

I recently in a closet cleaning found a rifle in a case that I was like “hrrm…I never bought an old rifle like this”.  Well it appears that the last time my father visited, he brought my mother’s rifle from when she was a little girl and tossed it in my closet for the sake of cleaning out his old stuff.

Well, I open it up, oil it up (it had fuzz from the soft case in it) and tried to shoot.  It fired, but didn’t load.  Oh…it’s not a LR like dad said but WMR (never heard of that round before)

Get some WMR….only the round just pops out when it goes to feed…ah…it’s missing the extractor.

*searches internet* Oh…there’s several types of this gun and almost no mention of the WMR type.

So…that long story made shorter: I need an extractor for this bolt and have no idea what model I’m looking for, would a standard S/L/LR extractor work, or do I need a WRF extractor?  Are there any books on how to assemble/disassemble this bolt?  Is there anything obvious I’m missing here?

Thanks in advance for any info/help!  I’ve never messed with anything that isn’t an AR platform before so I’m new to this gun.

“WMR” = Winchester Magnum Rimfire, a.k.a. 22 Win Mag.  Winchester invented that 22 Win Mag in the year 1959, and the first rifles made for it were the Model 61 in the year 1960.  Essentially, it is a modern (lengthened) version of the much older 22 W.R.F.

While I do not know for sure, I suspect that an extractor for either a 22 WRF or a 22 WMR will work… if you can find one of them.  The Model 61 was discontinued near the end of the year 1963.

Cornell Publications sells reprints of Winchester takedown and assembly guides.

Are there any books on how to assemble/disassemble this bolt?
