Gentlemen,Any expert evaluation of the following gun at the below link would be greatly appreciated.
Mark, on no better grounds than that it “looks too good to be true,” I suspect it’s been expertly refinished. However, the only specific clue for my “suspicion” that I can point to is the “Winchester” marking on the brl, that looks like it might have been buffed. On the other hand, that part of the roll die, because of the special font, might not imprint into the steel as deeply as the block letters, which look perfect. Only Seewin has the experience to call this.
If the cond is original, it’s a bargain! But even if it’s refinished, the quality of the workmanship makes it, I think, a fair price.
I made a move on a 1941 52B Sporter. It was only an hour away so I stopped in and looked at it before bidding on it. The bolt has been bent to clear the scope and then of coarse, drilled and tapped. It has an early all steel Weaver K4 that matches the vintage so it was probably added about the same time the rifle was 1st purchased. I’d like to put a smaller scope on it so I will keep my eye out for a Lyman Alaskan.

Good move! Some prior owner corrected the factory’s mistake & made it a better rifle. So many Alaskans on ebay, your only difficulty will be choosing which one, but you’ll need 7/8″ rings. Alaskans are often listed with rings & mount attached.
