I have a Winchester 04a with a stainless barrel my question is was a crescent butt a special order. most have the rubber butt plate.

The early 1904 rifles had the crescent butt plate. I don’t know when the change to the composition plate was made.
I should think a Stainless 04 would be quite a rarity.

A Stainless Steel barreled Model 04A should have the hard rubber (composite) butt plate.
