I can identify with the “Desire to have that rifle”! I paid over two grand for an early ‘minty’ Model 697. It happens. I have no regrets and often wonder who I was biding against. RDB P.S. It did make the the back cover of the Winter 2016 issue of “THE WINCHESTER COLLECTOR”.

Nice rifle, Rick! I sold a 90% 72 recently for about $250, if the wood was a nice as yours I probably would have kept it.

Thanks Mike. When I saw it listed and the condition I knew it wouldn’t last an hour before it was sold and it would complement my model 69 collection. It was listed at $275 U.S and I contacted the seller immediately and he said he would get back to me on shipping cost, but I didn’t want to lose out and said how about $350 shipped which I knew would cover it for sure and he took it.
It’s a keeper but… if I can get $1237 U.S 🤔

The one I sold for $250 was every bit as nice as the one sold in the OP. If I wasn’t trying to thin the herd a bit I’d be feeling a twinge of seller’s remorse. By the time JWA’s Model 72 book comes out I’ll probably find another one to use as a visual aid while reviewing it but that remains to be seen. I still have three Models 75 in my “eye candy” rack but they have been going to the range a fair bit lately. The 72 is a bit of an interesting outlier among the Winchester bolt .22’s of this group.
