I have a beautiful Model 62, with the original bill of sale, I inherited from my father.  When I brought it to a local gun store we discovered the serial number does not match any records.

The serial number on the trigger guard is 853647, and in the receiver it is 853647B.

Any info appreciated!

Sounds like you may have an 1890 parts clean-up rifle with the frame being a very late 1890 and a 62 barrel on it. There are others on the forum tracking these late hybrids, or whatever the appropriate term may be. They can probably confirm.

Thanks.  When I put the serial number into the 1890 model, it said it was made in 1940.  Is this good or bad for the value??

Check out the research survey thread for the best available info but yours falls into the “parts cleanup” timeframe (for the last 8500 or so with serial numbers above 846022).

I can’t hazard a guess as to how much the value is affected by being a parts cleanup/hybrid.

We called them hybrids initially because we noted rifles with late 1940s features on rifles with receivers made years earlier. When was your rifle originally bought? Is yours a 22 Short -only or a Short/Long/Long Rifle?

welcome & thanks for the info.

Thank you so much for all of that information.  It has added an interesting twist to a gun that already has tremendous sentimental value.  My father is thrilled to learn all of this.  It was the best xmas present he ever got!

Thank you again for reaching out.

oops!  It is both long and short rifle.  It has a scope, which I know makes some people cringe, but he had it installed the year he got it and it has been that way my entire life, so I love it!
