OfflinePictured is the left side of the receiver on my 2nd Generation Model 1890, serial number 162791 (1903) in .22WRF that show two factory plugged holes. Those plugged holes are more obvious than most. Some of those plugs, or pins, are almost invisible on some 2nd Gen 1890’s. The same plugs can also be found on the first year production M1906’s made using a 2nd Gen 1890 receiver. Also pictured is my 1st Gen M1906, SN 29279.
It appears those two plugs/pins secure an added piece to the left, inside of the receiver.
Question: are those two plugged holes on all 2nd Gen 1890’s and 1st model 1906’s? Or, just some of them.
Thanks for any replies and comments.

This very interesting since I once had a large collection of 1890’s and knew nothing of this.
I pulled out my 2nd model, 247659, and put it under a magnifying glass and there they are, but very faint. Mine is a WRF too.
Yep, some are almost invisible while others are more obvious.
Thanks for your comment, Chuck.
The plugged holes are rivets that hold a small hardened plate that works as more durable bolt lockup point. The color case hardened receivers will not have them.

Rustyjack,
Thank you for your detailed explanation. Much appreciated and I hope that snow you’re getting now from Fern doesn’t cause any problems.
