OfflineRecently acquired a 69A with the following characteristics. Sloping forend, straight bolt, 80A rear sight, no dovetail for sporting rear, what appears to be a Lyman 17 globe on front, chambering marked 22 L RIFLE– Cant find a date on the barrel. What appears to be a large LR stamped on bottom of barrel partially covered by the action screw stud. I think I know what is going on, but Jeff’s book got buried for a move. Any assistance appreciated

OfflineHi Bob,
Based on your description you have a post war G6940R 69A Target Rifle from 1946-1952 (type 2A or 2B depending upon the size of the sling swivels).
The Lyman 17A is likely not original but a nice addition. The G6940R came standard with the 93B front sight but the 17A was a special order option.
Best Regards,
Jeff

OfflineBob,
Switch them back, that is an easy fix if they used the same holes.

Fore sure. I’m looking. Are the studs common to all Win. models with different sized swivels being used? Prev owner said sling was factory, but I don’t believe him.He said the rifle was a Match too. Looking for pics of correct sling to compare.

OfflineHi Bob,
Yes, the sling swivels are common to a lot of the Winchester models and are easily found on eBay. The front swivel has machine threads and a nut insert in the forend which is similar (but slightly shorter) than the threads on the model 70 front swivel. The model 70 front swivel threads can be trimmed to fit if necessary.
The 1″ sling eyes are more prevalent than the 1-1/4″ sling eyes and both sizes were used post-war on the G6940R Target so you should have no problem finding a set if you are patient.
