I’ve never owned a M52, but I do have an awesome Springfield 1922 M2. Barrel date is 31, all parts match and in exceptional condition, including original sling. I have owned a lot of .22 caliber rifles of various makes on models, most of which were quite accurate. But this rifle is simply a tack driver. Even with the Federal ammo I’ve used, the 50 yard, 10 round groups can be covered with a 50 cent piece. I love this rifle.

So why did SA terminate production? Because US gunmakers, led by you know who, complained loudly to their Congressional reps that these gov’t-built rifles were “unfair” competition. There’s some logic to that argument, but no domestic maker was willing to provide target rifles to ROTC rifle teams free of charge as SA did (loaned, not donated, was the arrangement I believe), through DCM.

I’m taking my 52C to the club for a checkup this weekend. Me, not the gun! I can’t shoot with Tom but that old Winchester will let me know how well I can shoot irons. Turned 64 today and last range trip was a bit disappointing but I was doing load development.

Mike, you are still a baby. I was 81 last September. Granted, I cannot walk without a walker, but I still have fairly good eyesight. BTW, Happy Birthday Mike. Big Larry

Thanks, Big Larry. I’m not much of a shooter, never was. I had a pretty good career as a comp shooter but that was awhile back and to be quite honest I wasn’t that good then! I guess we both know what it takes to be a really good shooter.

I should have been the shooter my Dad was. He was on the USMC Pistol and Rifle team. He shot everything well including the 5″ gun on the USS Vincennes when he was a Sea Going Marine. He distinguished in 1952 with the pistol and out shot all the Marines at the Marine matches in Quantico. He also won the gold in the 5 Man Team match. In 1952, he qualified for the Olympics, but politics kept him from going. I used to be a fair shot, but only qualified as a Sharpshooter in my time in the Marines. I have some super shooters in my collection, but my health problems keep me from shooting them. Big Larry

I love those old Model 41 SW. I passed on a really nice one about 25 years ago and have regretted it since.
Well, Paul, I didn’t regret selling the one I had, because out of every mag, 2 or 3 cases would hang up under the slide extension, & they weren’t easy to dislodge. Maybe mine was a factory lemon, but it did that with all ammo I tried.

Thanks, and Semper Fi. Navy or Marine? Dad was a Plank Owner on the CA44 USS VINCENNES. Part of the Marine detachment. Sailed the world in 1937 on its shakedown cruise. The ship was sunk August 10th, 1942 in the Slot off Savo Island. He was not on it. Big Larry
