Found this old ad for mod 69. Notice that the youth Target model has only a front sling swivel. Why? What sense does that make?Winchester-1962-pic1.jpgImage Enlarger

I suspect it could be a issue with the guy that made the printing plate. You have to remember they didn’t have the ability to photocopy so they had to have printer plates engraved.

As mentioned, the Junior Target Shooter’s Special (JTSS) was only supplied with the front swivel which could be used with a sling cuff similar to this  http://www.champchoice.com/store/Main.aspx?p=ItemDetailOptions&item=CCS40

Stevens made some models the same way–one swivel to affix a cuff.

Best Regards,

I guess that gives some credence to the 69 being a capable competitor in its day. A cuff isn’t an everyday shooter’s accessory . I bet 90% had a 2nd swivel added.

Wouldn’t be surprising at the junior level…when many large high-schools sponsored rifle teams.  (Can you believe it???)

Since they are still available at Champion’s Choice I would guess there are still some people out there that use them.

You are correct, quite a few of the JTSS had a rear swivel installed by the end user which makes finding a nice unmolested example that much harder.

If you haven’t noticed, Vince, Big Larry has been very lucky recently. I think he’ll find one.

Oh I noticed. I am going to make a pilgrimage to the Big Larry Winchester Rim Fire Consortium. It’s a sight to behold, I’m sure.

Sounds like a bucket list trip, indeed! I’ve been inspired by his collection and recent acquisitions; it seems a bit of his good luck has rubbed off on me.

Mike

You guys want to see some amazing 22’s and others, make a pilgrimage to our friend JWA’s. He has almost all of the different models. He lives about 175 miles from me, and someday, I hope to be invited.   Big Larry
