Ed,
October of 1935. Just for a reference in the future, if you go to the top of the page, and click on Resources, and scroll down, you’ll see, “When was you’re Winchester made”, and click on one of the listed model’s and then you’re serial number, and it will tell you, as in this case, 1935! I found October in Herbert Houze, model 52 Book!
Does it have a letter at the end of the serial number?
Pictures would be great, as many of us would like to see it!
A couple of the model 52 Experts, IMO, are in Cody, Wyoming for the WACA, 50 year Celebration, and Gun Show. I’m sure they will chime in and add whatever you would like to know. Their shared knowledge, and experience, is First Rate! Besides that, it might not be in the current Survey being conducted, and we all appreciate the hard work, and time and dedication these gentlemen spend on this, for all our benefit!

Winchester 52 serial #38343 will be an unmarked A rifle, made in the last half of October, 1935. An “un-marked A” rifle is a Winchester Model 52 rifle that was made after the changes of the A model were incorporated, but before Winchester had made the decision to mark all such rifles with the letter “A” .

Looked the rifle over a little better last night. I could not find any mfg. markings on the front or rear sights. The rear sight has a running deer with a circle and post on the left side, which I guess represents the front sight. Also a patent date of July 11, 1911.
Anyone wish to venture a guess as to who made them?
Thanks

Sounds like the Lyman gun sight symbol.

Ed,
I’m in agreement with Mike, on the Lyman Logo. The Lyman logo, would be the pony inside a circle on the mounting block, of, what looks like a rear, Lyman #48 receiver sight. Maybe a second variation, as the early first didn’t have the pony logo. Patent date, should say July, 11, 1911. The front looks like a Lyman #77 target sight.

Thanks for all the reply’s. I need an aperture for the rear sight and inserts for the front sight. The front sight inserts are on ebay. Anyone know where to look for rear sight aperture.
ebay may be your best bet; search “lyman 48 aperture” for variety ….and/or look for seller “aperturesnmore”

Apertures and More your best bet. He does great work and you cannot tell originals from his. I ordered a 1″ disk from him for my Lyman 48 and I was impressed. Big Larry
