Interesting. I have 11 fairly nice M1906’s. I pulled the stock off my nickel plated Expert and the serial number is professionally stamped into the wood under the upper tang. None of the other rifles in my 1906 collection are numbered like that. Your thoughts Sir.   Big Larry

Interesting indeed, Big Larry. Erin recently posted about a nickel 1892 with the serial number stamped on the underside of the barrel.

Hi Larry,

I have seen that on some fancy wood (but that is not the case with gumwood).  I have also seen it on rifles that went back for R&R.  I am not saying that either is the case here but those are my only experiences with the number stamped in the stock.

Best Regards,

I should check my blued Expert to see if its stock is numbered.  Thanks JWA.  Going off in another collection area. Bought a couple S&W’s, and a couple Colts.

Gave a few of my 22’s away.  Thanks, Big Larry

Larry,

Sounds like I need to come visit again.  I will be driving back from the Greeley, CO gun show on Wednesday, May the 21st and going right by your house (week after next).

It will be too late in the day for donuts but I can bring a late lunch/early dinner by and we can talk guns (REAL guns, not those S&W toys you play with Laugh).  Hopefully Tom can stop by as well.

The book on the 75 is done and at the Publisher now.  Moving forward, I need some more Model 72’s for photos and research on the next book.

Best Regards,

Here’s a pic of “Two Gun Nan’s” serial numbered 1906 Expert stock.  (BTW….the post title gave me a bit of scare…. thought something happened to JWA!)

Well, I’ll be a monkeys Uncle. I guess I had better check my blued Expert. Hey Ben, I got a prewar Ace magazine off the Colt Forum. $285 shipped. Just about mint, so I have no more need for any more magazines. Thanks again for the Match Target magazine.   Big Larry

You are always welcome. I don’t know about Tom. He has lots of irons in the fire, but I’ll ask him. Maybe you can go home with a couple 22’s. Got two nice M72’s, but I want to keep both. You can take pics. No need to bring anything. Looking forward to your visit.   Big Larry
