OfflineHello everyone!
My brother and I have several of our grandfather’s old Winchesters, including his 1956 bull gun that he won several national matches with as well as a Model 52 bull gun and a Model 75 target rifle.
I’ll post new threads in the appropriate places on the prior two rifles, but I have a question on the Model 75. I have a Weaver K3 60-B scope I pulled off of an old Browning BL22 that I would like to mount to my 75 and I have rings, however, I don’t think they’re going to work for this application. Do you guys have any recommendations on how I can accomplish my goal here? I can attach pictures if need be. Thanks for any help!

OfflineWelcome!
The book on the Model 75 (The Winchester Model 75 – Diversity in Design) lists all the scopes appropriate for a vintage Model 75, but you did not specify if you have a Model 75 Target or Model 75 Sporting rifle as the scope requirements and applications are completely different.
So, I will try to help as best as I can on your provided info…
While the Weaver K3 was certainly available for the Model 75 Target (and 75 Sporting) as of 1956, it was one of the lessor desired scopes because of the low power. The larger diameter tube and optics were better designed for field shooting, in lower light conditions and the K3 was not generally used by “target” shooters.
Additionally, the longer/standard scope base spacing provided on the Model 75 Target was not optimal for the mounting positions on the shorter K3 (although it could be made to fit).
My best recommendation is to save that scope for a different rifle unless you are dead-set in using it on the Model 75 target unless, you are willing to accept mounting provision deviations, AND/OR you are willing to accept a sub-par scope power for the 75 target.
Again, welcome to the WACA forum and looking forward to additional details so we can help your further

Offlinejk3hunter,
Welcome to the WACA forum, and as JWA has done such a great job explaining what you need to check up on, I can’t stress the point enough on picking up his book on the Winchester model 75.
The information and the detail to everything that you’re asking, besides much more is phenomenal, and such an enjoyable read. IMO!
There is so much to learn and know in you’re quest to get it right. I can’t imagine if any information was left out of his book, as there is so much more in it, besides what you are looking for.
It’s well worth the money spent, as a reference book that I go back to several times.
Looking forward to you’re pictures.

OfflineThank you guys for the input! My model 75 is indeed a target model, not sporting, and I’m ok with the low magnification of the K3 as I am only using the rifle for shooting gophers and punching the occasional piece of paper. My grandpa may have had your book in his collection as he has one for the Model 52, but I will look into sourcing the Model 75 book as well.
