“Production began in April 1954 at serial number 1001. Serial numbers reached approximately 178500 when Winchester discontinued serializing this model. Total production is listed as 217,180 rifles.
It is possible to determine a more specific manufacture date range by identifying the specific physical features of the rifle in question.”
