Do all Model 77’s have serial #’s?  I recently read that they don’t and that they were the result of late manufacturing from extra parts.  Also, some stocks appear to have a palm swell on the forestock area.  Is that a late or early feature, or perhaps on tube fed vs. magazine fed?

Thanks!

Most 77’s have serial numbers i think it was after 190K that they stopped numbering.

Happy New Year!

No, as Vince mentioned, the later rifles were not serial numbered.

Also, some stocks appear to have a palm swell on the forestock area.  Is that a late or early feature, or perhaps on tube fed vs. magazine fed?

The semi-beavertail forend (swell in the forestock area) was an early feature on both the magazine fed G7707R and the tube fed G7708R but was discontinued on both models later in production.

Additionally, late Model 77s will have a very handy bolt hold-open button at the front of the receiver on the right side.

There has not been much detail published on the production changes to the Model 77, hopefully someday a detailed volume can be written on them.
