I HAVE A MODEL 69A THAT IS IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION, ONE OF FOUR I HAVE. WHAT PUZZLES ME ABOUT THIS LITTLE RIFLE IS THAT THERE IS NO PROOF MARK ON THE BARREL, AND THE DESCRIPTION SAYS .22 L RIFLE LEAVING OFF THE S,L. IT DOES NOT HAVE A GROOVED RECEIVER. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE A 69 LIKE THIS OR KNOW WHY THIS RIFLE IS DIFFERENT CONCERNING THESE ISSUES?
What does the front sight look like? Is there mounting holes in the left side of the receiver for a target sight? If so it may be a match or a target model. Sad to say but no proof mark might means some idiot removed them when refinishing the gun..

Hi,
Vince is correct in that it is likely a Post-WWII Match or Target rifle. If it has a Lyman 57EW it is likely the G6941R “Match” rifle and if it has the Winchester 80B rear peep sight it is likely the G6940R “Target” rifle. Pictures would help us evaluate it further for you.
There have been many documented cases of Model 69A’s leaving the factory without a proof mark. There are surviving records which indicate at least 30 69A’s were released without proof marks in the span of less than 1 year so it did occur occasionally. Again, as Vince mentioned, it could also be the rifle was refinished and the proof marks buffed off. Clear, close-up pictures would tell us for sure.
Hope that helps.
