Hi, I have been enjoying reading you comments on the Mod.61. I am working on buying a model and 61 and thought that I would ask what it is that I should look for in this model that might make it a cut above average…thanks…Dean

Being 100% original and lots of condition.

An early pre WW2 model 61 with small fore end wood for .22S, L or LR or even better, a single caliber model 61; ie, .22 SHORT, .22 Long Rifle or .22WRF with octagon barrel and a tang sight attached would be a big plus.

Buy the nicest one you can find and afford.  That way, whenever you go to sell it, the only complaint will be the price.

Shooter or collectible? Jolly Bill has the right idea for a collectible, but if it’s a shooter you want, get one with a grooved receiver so you can scope it. Stay away from pre drilled rifles. Extra holes never did anyone good.  Big Larry

I’d like to find a shooter 61 someday, have a couple that are too nice to shoot. I hear 61’s are a hoot to shoot, hope to find out someday. Good luck in your quest, Dean!

I haven’t been able to buy it yet, but I did find out that it was produced in 1947, chambered for 22,22l & LR. with a 24″ round barrel and no receiver grooves.
