Hey everyone, found this site and I was hoping to get some expert help from you. I recently purchased a model 52 that was in pieces. After researching, I am confused. It has a 24 inch barrel, and is marked New haven, ct. After researching I had a slight suspicion after checking the serial number that it was possibly a sporter. But I am starting to doubt it now. The barrel is .640 at the muzzle and around an inch at the action. That seems to differ from the sporter specs I have found. The serial is 24,xxx. It had the scope blocks and no front ramp. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance
Sounds like your gun has been cut down to 24 inches from 28 inches. Your serial number is way to early to be a original sporter. The earliest known sporter has a serial number in the 26000 range and it is considered a prototype. The first sporters sold to the public usually are seen in the 36000 range. Factory sporters are .555 at the muzzle. Also the sporter barrels won’t have scope blocks on the barrel and will have a front ramp. Another indication that your gun has had the barrel shortened and it was originally a 52 target.
