They are very scarce. Nice ones probably only exist in collections. I have a mediocre one that I paid plenty for. Someone wanted it as bad as I did, and kept running the bid up. That’s why I hate auctions. Mine is calibers 22 short and 22 long with a bad bore to boot. Externally, it is pretty nice. It has no model number or any proofs. No buttplate and a gumwood stock. These were only made 3 years and not too many survived. I think they were the cheapest Winchester ever made. Probably paid too much at $990 afer shipping and auction fees, but the guy that bid me up had no problem with the selling price. Big Larry

Here are the links from Wards.  They had some real nice 22’s in this auction.  Looks like prices on these are starting to creep up a bit.  Hard to find 22’s from this era in good condition.

Me too, but the hope that the competitive spirit (or aggressiveness, or ignorance, or greed) of bidders will overpower their good judgment is the main objective of an auction.

The book says the first rifles had the Winchester stamped into the stock, but that is not correct. The first rifles didn’t have any markings on the stock. Mine is the first model and I am not looking for another. I just scored what may be my last 22. A real nice M1902-A. I am getting further into Smith and Wessons. Big Larry

Here is a nice Model 1900 I have for sale. Very hard boys gun to find in good condition. I will list it in the Swap Meet category. Email Me at [email protected] or call 207-522-0939
