Cleaning my Model 190 today and I found that the recoil plate has broken. A portion around

the return spring hole is missing. 

A couple of questions, am I  correct that the return spring goes through the hole?

And what is the plate’s actual purpose? 

I found a source for a new one but want to make sure I  get it back in correctly.

Gary,

While there might be someone on the WACA forums that can answer your question, the WACA website is primarily dedicated to pre-1964 (collectable) Winchester firearms. Your will be better served by asking your question on Gunbroker.
