Most likely it is something somebody put together.  If you want to be sure, contact the CFM records office and have them check the factory ledger records for it.

Texas MacDonald said there are no markings at all on the barrel.

Brl being unmarked means it’s custom work, but what a dandy idea!  Over half a million ’90s built, how many smoothbores?  I’ve always wanted to shoot a smoothbore .22 to find out what kind of patterns it produced, but the very scarce factory smoothbores are far too expensive for my humble means.

Of course, in the .22 shot cartridge, what’s commonly called rat shot, I don’t know the numerical size.  Fired through a rifled bore, the effective range is about 15′, but would expect considerable improvement in a smoothbore.

Texas MacDonald said I shout one grouse at 18 yards and one at 15 yards. They will shoot. Texas.

That’s with standard .22 rat-shot?  If so I’m very impressed, & demonstrates the diff a smoothbore makes compared to a rifled bore.

Hello,

I’m new to the forums but I saw this post and had to reply.

I have my friends 1890 here cleaning it up. It was his Father’s rifle and he inherited it after his passing.

It’s a Second Model Takedown in 22 short.

Just looking down the lighted bore after I ran some Hoppes through it, it is shiny clean and shows no rifling.

I’ve corresponded with someone on here that suggested it may be shot out because of the corrosive nature of early cartridges.

I still think it is smooth and requires some more exploring.

What is the CFM in the above post by Bert?
