went to an auction today there was a M1906 22. that had sling eyes down by the end of the stock and one at the end of the magazine, was this a factory or after market set up?   terryLaugh

Probably aftermarket. I am sure you could order one with sling eyes, but probably about 99% are add ons. Real nice, unadulterated M1906’s are quite hard to find. Almost all for sale have something wrong with them. A straight 95% rifle may cost you over $1,000. A lot have bad bores and no finish. A real nice one is a collectors prize.   Big Larry

Might have screwed up on passing on this rifle, it went for 475! It so good i thought it might have been refinished, but the roll marks looked real crisp, like it had not been buffed on.   terryLaugh  what else is there to look at to figure out if it was refinished?

Takes years of practice sometimes to see if a gun has been refinished. Some, even fool the experts if done properly. Many M1906 and 06 rifles I have seen have been refinished. I have a M1906 and a 06, and both are 95%+ with perfect bores. Many have the bores shot out. Another problem is cracked stocks. My 06 has a slight crack by the trigger guard. The wood used is Gumwood. I do not know if it is as harder or softer than walnut. They are considered Boys rifles, and most were not properly taken cars of, hence, a lot of beaters. $475 is awful cheap for one.   Big Larry
