Greetings…new guy here…while handling my dad’s estate I note that his Model 61 is serial number 51.  While I know that low serial numbers don’t always drive a premium in value, would a 2 digit, first year model have any enhanced value?  Thanks for your thoughts and opinions!

The graded condition of the rifle will have the largest influence on its value, but Yes, the early (2-digit) serial number will undoubtedly add a moderate premium to the value.

Good morning,

Does your rifle have a round or octagon shaped barrel?  That feature, in conjunction with the condition will strongly influence the potential value of the rifle.  With regard to the moderate premium that will be gained by the low SN that will be determined by a potential buyer.  I have been conducting a research survey of the Model 61 rifles for the past +6 years and have cataloged just over 5020 individual rifles.  I have found 5 of the 50 rifles with a lower serial number than yours.  And the owner of SN 50, which I have seen, might just pay a substantial premium to own the next one also.

Hello Michael…it has a round barrel.  I can’t get the page that explains how to post photos to open or I would post a pic or two.  Can I just “insert image” on this email system?  Thanks!
